Effects of Flooding on the Trumpeter Swan?

April 19, 2001 -

Shari Harris, a Signals Teacher from Wesley Academy, Houston writes: "My kids and I have looked at where the trumpeter swans are and what's going on in Wisconsin and made some deductions about the potential effects it may have on the swans since the flood sources have to start upriver where the swans are currently camping. We looked at something from USGS on the Wisconsin watersheds and found that most of the feeders to the Mississippi are 80-90% on their way to flood stage.

Is there a relationship between the flooding and the weather imagery and maps? Maps and images don't necessarily show big weather events without tracking several weeks worth of them. Maybe the maps can show snow melt that can cause the flooding".
