Bald Eagle Removed From Endangered Species List

June 29, 2007 - After forty years on the endangered species list, the bald eagle was "delisted" yesterday. The species was listed in 1967 after years of hunting, and exposure to poisons and the pesticide DDT which caused eggshell thinning. The population has rebounded from 417 breeding pairs in 1967 to about 10,000 pairs today. The bald eagle recovery is certainly an event to be celebrated.
